Choosing an Engagement Ring

Engagement Rings
This is an emotional event, and a purchase that will last a lifetime. Whether you're buying a ring together or choosing it for your bride to be, it is an exciting time.

How much should I spend?
The two month salary convention is a common starting point, but we believe that regardless of the amount you budget, your most important considerations should be quality and value.

What metal should I choose?
Platinum is the strongest, most pure metal, rarer than gold. It will last a lifetime.
18k Gold is the most common ring setting, composed of 75% gold and 25% metal alloys to give it strength.

Exactly what style should I decide on?

Should you be buying jointly, take your time and try on various styles. Keep in mind that a wedding band will ultimately sit next to the engagement ring therefore the two must fit together.

If you wish to surprise her with a ring, seek out styles she likes on friends, in advertising campaign and in jewellers' windows. Does she favor traditional or contemporary jewellery? Does she wear yellow, white gold or platinum jewellery?

A diamond solitaire ring would be the traditional engagement ring an individual diamond set on a band of gold or platinum. Brilliant round is the classic diamond shape solitaire. Nevertheless, extravagant shaped diamonds such as emerald cut, princess cut, oval, heart, pear and marquise are more and more popular that will create an exquisite contemporary engagement ring.

A diamond cluster ring brings together a number of stones for a dazzling effect. A cluster ring may have one diamond as its centerpiece surrounded by smaller stones. Or it may feature four diamonds of equal size, set together to create the look of one stunning stone.

A diamond three stone ring is a beautiful, meaningful option. With a diamond representing your past, your present and your future, a three stone diamond ring is also referred to as a Trilogy ring.

What size does she wear?
The easiest way to find out is to pinch a ring from her jewellery box and take it to a jeweller for sizing, or use our online sizing guide. Don't forget to replace it before she notices it's missing.

How do I choose a diamond?
Think about the shape of the diamond. The most traditional is round brilliant, but there are many others including pear, emerald, oval, heart, marquise and princess.

Choosing a Wedding Ring

Wedding rings
Represent your love, commitment and unity through matching or complementary rings available at JQS. The most symbolic piece of jewellery you'll own is your wedding ring.
There are many things to consider when choosing your wedding ring.

  • The ring needs to match or sit comfortably with the engagement ring.
  • If you intend buying an eternity ring in the future, make sure the wedding ring leaves enough room on the bride's finger.
  • If you do manual work, you'll need a heavier weight ring for extra durability.
  • Patterned or diamond set rings are increasingly fashionable but the traditional plain band remains popular.

Choose from yellow gold, white gold or platinum.

Anniversary Gifts

Anniversary gifts
Celebrating anniversaries is an important part of every marriage. Every year should be celebrated as an exciting milestone in your life.

Eternal love
The traditional anniversary gift is the diamond eternity ring. An eternity ring is a beautiful piece of jewellery that symbolises everlasting love and commitment. The ring is given at any time, as a gift for a variety of reasons, from celebrating an anniversary, to marking the birth of a child or a special birthday.

For your past, present and future
For the true romantic the three stones in a trilogy diamond ring symbolically represent the Past, Present and the Future of your love life. The three diamonds although individually complete and self sufficient are closely related to each other and depict the special bonding and chemistry which you and your beloved share amongst the two of you.
